I am bemused by the current fashion for faux colour. For stills photography there are apps that crudely ape the colours of the past and it has crept onto television. My wife is a dedicated watcher of a program called The Hour that is broadcast in a most peculiar colour mode.
The production team probably thinks that its muted palate mirrors the colours of the 1950s, whereas in reality Fifties colour as depicted on the screen was all bright and rather comic-strip like. If they wanted to be accurate surely it should have been in black and white? Full Colour television broadcasts didn’t come to Britain until 1966.
And if they didn’t want to annoy people, why didn’t they shoot the program normally? Even my wife hates it … she loves the story, and the characters but finds the odd colouring distracting.
